When it Comes to Window Replacement in San Diego, Installation Is More Important Than You Might Think

When it Comes to Window Replacement in San Diego, Installation Is More Important Than You Might Think

Let’s talk about replacement window installation. As a replacement window dealer in San Diego, it’s my experience that most of my customers focus on the windows themselves. They ask about the manufacturers, the quality of the materials, and the features of the windows. They want to make sure their new windows will be energy efficient, help keep out the noise from outside, and upgrade the curb appeal of their home.

Rarely, does anyone ask about the installation of their new windows. They don’t ask who will be doing the installation, what their level of competency is, and what happens if they make a mistake during the installation. I get it. It’s not the most exciting part of the process, but it’s definitely an important part of the process.

To put it very clearly, quality installation is just as important as quality windows. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you could buy the most expensive, energy-efficient windows available, but if they aren’t installed properly, you will not see the energy savings you had hoped for. In other words, you will have wasted your hard-earned money. If you’re going to pay for high-quality windows, make sure the installation is quality as well.

Some replacement window companies in San Diego try to cut costs by outsourcing the installation of the windows they sell. This is especially true of the “big box” stores that sell replacement windows. There’s not necessarily anything wrong with outsourcing labor—companies do it all the time. The problem comes when those who are doing the installing aren’t trained in window installation. Window installation is easy to do, but it takes time and training to master. And be honest with yourself: would you really be able to recognize a sub-standard installation job if it occurred in your home? It might not be obvious to the untrained eye. You may not find out until months or even years later, when your windows start to fail, that the installation was not done properly.

At our San Diego replacement window company, BM Windows, we use only our own team of factory-trained window installers. They are knowledgeable about the products they are installing, as well as the best installation techniques. Our company is so confident in their work, that we offer a lifetime guarantee on the installation, which is in addition to the warranty our customers get on the actual window products. This means our customers are fully covered if anything ever goes wrong with their new windows. Without the installation guarantee, if something goes wrong with the windows down the road, and it is determined that the problem occurred because of a mistake with the installation, the homeowner is on the hook for the cost of any repairs.

As you’re shopping for replacement windows for your San Diego home, make sure you ask about the installation—who will be doing it, what kind of training they have received, and whether or not their work is guaranteed.
