Sliding Patio Door Options for San Diego Homeowners

Sliding Patio Door Options for San Diego Homeowners

Most homeowners in San Diego are familiar with the common type of sliding patio door—the two-panel sliding door many houses are built to feature. But did you know there are other options for sliding patio doors in San Diego that offer more functional door area and choices of opening direction, while giving your home increased natural light and a better view?

Three-Panel Sliding Patio Doors for San Diego

Three-panel sliding patio doors consist of three glass panels, with one of the panels sliding horizontally to open and close. Any of the three single panels can be designated as the panel that opens/closes and allows access between your patio and home. If you choose to make the center panel the functional panel, you can decide whether to have the panel slide to the left or to the right to open the door.

Three-panel sliding patio doors in San Diego can be useful in both bedrooms and family living areas with patio access. The main benefit to three-panel sliding patio doors is a third more viewing area, since the door has an additional glass panel, allowing your home to take on additional natural light for enjoyment and a better view.

Four-Panel Sliding Patio Doors for San Diego

Four-panel sliding patio doors consist of four glass panels, with one or possibly two of the glass panels sliding horizontally to open and close. The functional panels can be the far right or left panels or the two center panels, depending on the homeowner’s preference. Four-panel sliding patio doors can be useful in both bedrooms and family living areas with access to very large patio areas.

The main benefit to four-panel sliding patio doors is a viewing area that amounts to a wall of windows, since the door has four glass panels, allowing your home to take on even more natural light for enjoyment and a better view. Four-panel sliding patio doors in San Diego have more of an obstructed view than three-panel sliding patio doors since they have an additional frame column or post, but they also provide double the functional door space since the door opening is half the total sliding panel area.

If you currently have the standard two-panel slider in your San Diego home, and have some extra space, consider upgrading to a larger patio door with three or four panels. Unlike the patio doors of old, many of the patio doors on the market today are extremely energy efficient, so you don’t have to worry about your house heating up due to more glass. You also have many options to go with your new patio doors, such as upgraded security and hardware packages, as well as an in-glass pet door.
