Sun Tunnels Can Brighten Your San Diego Home

Sun Tunnels Can Brighten Your San Diego Home

Many San Diego homes have dark bathrooms, hallways, bedrooms and other rooms that could be illuminated by daylight if they only featured a window or door. Sun tunnel skylights, sometimes referred to as “tubular skylights”, “light tubes”, “sun pipes” or even “solar tubes” are a great option to illuminate dim and dark interior living spaces with daylighting technology. Basically a sun tunnel is a specially designed tunnel that passes San Diego sunlight from the roof to the ceiling. The tunnel is typically capped with a light diffuser that blends into the ceiling surface and illuminates your dark space with daylight.

Scientific studies have shown that people exposed to natural light are more productive, have higher self-esteem and have higher levels of mental health. Sun tunnels are an energy efficient daylighting system, perfect for homes and roof spaces where traditional skylights are impossible. And unlike traditional skylights, sun tunnels are uniquely designed to reduce the problematic aspects of sunlight like glare and ultraviolet rays that can fade furniture and carpet surfaces.

Sun tunnels can be flexible, if there are attic obstacles that need to be navigated, or rigid, when attic space is clear or the navigation is very minimal. Rigid tunnels provide the brightest daylight passage and are excellent for long runs between roof and ceiling spaces. Some sun tunnels offer a hybrid lighting system that blends super energy efficient LED light with sunlight to provide illumination throughout the day or night.

If your San Diego home has a dark interior space that could be transformed with some light, contact your local San Diego window or skylight installer and ask for a sun tunnel, you’ll be amazed at the difference in your home.
