San Diego Solar Powered Skylights Eligible for 30% Federal Tax Credit

San Diego Solar Powered Skylights Eligible for 30% Federal Tax Credit

If you are interested in having a skylight installed in your home, did you know that solar powered skylights are eligible to receive a 30% Federal Tax Credit?  The combination of the Emergency Stabilization Act and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides a 30% tax credit on both the purchase and installation of qualifying products such as solar electric property, solar water heating, and qualified wind energy products. Under these laws, qualifying solar powered skylights are eligible to receive the 30% Federal Tax Credit through December 31, 2016.

San Diego skylights that open and close are a great way to allow fresh air and natural light into your San Diego home. Even more helpful, they are a tremendous way to release the warm, stuffy air that rises to the ceiling spaces of your home. Typical solar powered skylights require no wiring to hard-to-reach locations, as the power source is self-generated solar power.

San Diego solar powered skylights usually have their own rooftop solar panel that charges an integrated battery powered-motor, which opens and closes the skylight. The skylight operation is typically controlled from a wireless remote control, and some models can be programmed to open and close on a predetermined schedule or close automatically if the solar panel detects inclement San Diego weather. Some models can also be installed with custom sun shades to shield homes from hot midday San Diego heat and increase energy efficiency.

San Diego solar powered skylights range in price from $1,100 to $2,300+, not including installation. To get the tax credit benefits, San Diego residents should keep their receipts for the purchase price and installation costs of their solar powered skylight and attach them to a 30% Federal Tax Credit – Manufacturers Certification Statement. At tax time, fill out the IRS Tax Form 5695 and enter the tax credit from Form 5695 on the 1040 form. It’s always a good idea to keep all receipts and paperwork as part of your tax records.
