How Has House Painting in San Diego Changed Since the Coronavirus?

How Has House Painting in San Diego Changed Since the Coronavirus?

I’ll start my answer to this question the way every article you read lately seems to start: “We’re living in unprecedented times. The coronavirus is affecting every part of our lives. We have to prepare for a ‘new normal.’”

While these words may be overused at this point, it doesn’t make them any less true. The coronavirus is affecting the way we socialize, the way we go to school, the way we shop, and yes, the way we work. Some of us have the ability to work from home (albeit with some challenges), but others have to drastically change the way they do their jobs, if they are able to keep doing them at all.

Fortunately, San Diego house painting companies have been able to adapt to the ever-changing situation that is the coronavirus pandemic. At my company, PaintGreen, we have continued to work, though with some modifications. We have begun marketing our company to those looking to have the exterior of their houses painted and to business owners who currently have empty offices and have been thinking about having their offices painted for a while.

As things slowly start to open up in San Diego, however, we are beginning to talk again to homeowners who are looking to have their interiors or their kitchen cabinets painted. We are very cautious when entering people’s homes. We have our health and safety procedures that we follow to keep our employees safe, but we also take cues from the homeowners and will do what makes them most comfortable while we are in their homes. These safety precautions will likely continue for a while, so our San Diego painting company and others like ours are adjusting to this “new normal” as best we can.

Consider the Type of Paint Being Used—Especially Right Now

If you’re still working from home or currently laid off or furloughed from your job, but want the interior of your house painted, make sure the San Diego painting company you hire is using Low VOC paint. Otherwise, you will find yourself breathing in lots of unhealthy fumes as you shelter in place. The whole point of staying home is to protect yourself from a dangerous virus. Don’t subject yourself to another kind of danger by using paint with toxic chemicals.

What About Painting Your House Yourself as You Shelter in Place?

We are hearing lots of stories about people completing “quarantine projects.” These are DIY projects that people are getting done around their houses while they are sheltering in place. Painting is a popular one. If you have considered taking on a painting project yourself, make sure you read this article we wrote for this column a couple of months ago called Do I Really Need to Hire a Professional House Painter for My San Diego Home? or this one, titled I’m a DIYer, But When Should I Call in a Professional San Diego House Painter? Both of these articles will give you some things to think about before you take on that DIY painting project. Maybe you’ll still decide to take on the project on your own, but at least you’ll be aware of some of the challenges.
