“Why are San Diego painting companies so busy right now? I’ve called several San Diego house painters, and they either don’t call me back, or they say they won’t be able to get to my house for several months! I was hoping to have my home painted before the new year!”
We’ve been hearing questions and comments like this a lot lately at our San Diego painting company. Just like many other companies like ours, we’re extremely busy right now. We’re having to ask our customers to wait longer than we’d like. Most of them are understanding, but some are understandably frustrated.
Ever since the coronavirus entered our world and the accompanying stay-at-home orders were put in place, our phone has been ringing off the hook! They same is true for pretty much every reputable house painter in San Diego that we know of. With people spending more time at home, I guess they are deciding to finally get around to some of the home improvement projects they may have been putting off. Perhaps it’s also the case that fewer homeowners are entertaining in their homes these days, so it seems like a good time to do some renovations that put their homes “out of commission” for a while.
It’s never a good sign when a company doesn’t return your phone call or email inquiry. No matter how busy they are, a good company will get back to you, even if it’s just to say, “We aren’t taking on any new customers right now.”
I know it can be frustrating, but when a house painting company tells you they won’t be able to get to your project for weeks, or even months, it’s not because they are trying to put you off. They are likely really busy and doing everything they can to just keep up with demand.
You might be thinking, “Why don’t these painting companies just hire more painters so they can catch up?” Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. There is a real shortage of skilled labor right now in San Diego. That means we would have to hire inexperienced painters and train them. This takes time. At our San Diego painting company, we require all of our painters to go through our extensive training process to ensure that every job we do is up to our strict standards. We’re doing everything we can to get our new hires up to speed, but it’s not a fast process when you do it right.
These are unprecedented times, in more ways than one. So please be patient with us! If you want to hire an experienced, reputable company, it will likely take some time before they will be able to get to you. If you have a rush job, like if your house is going on the market soon, there are some companies that may be willing to squeeze you into their schedule, but you’ll likely pay a premium right now.
As someone who has been in the house painting industry for many years, I can tell that things won’t always be this way. Hang in there! We’ll get to your project as soon as we can!
