Almost every homeowner eventually reaches a point where they want to make some drastic changes to the way their home looks. This is especially true for owners of older homes. Paint is one home improvement that can make a significant difference almost overnight. You can go from having a rundown-looking or outdated home to one that looks fresh, clean, and modernized in very little time.
If you’re considering hiring a professional San Diego house painter, you may be wondering if it makes sense to paint your entire house at once, or if it would be smarter to do the interior and exterior at separate times. Here are a few things to think about:
Will Doing Both at the Same Time Save Money?
Some San Diego house painters may give you a discount for a larger project, but not all. It is still pretty much the same amount of work for a painting company whether they do the two jobs together or at separate times. You can always ask about a multi-project discount, but there’s no guarantee that a company will give you one.
As with any large home improvement project, it’s smart to get several quotes. That way, you can tell if a painting company that is claiming to give you a discount is actually offering the best value. Some companies play the game of inflating their regular prices and then offering “discounts” to make it seem like you’re getting a good deal.
At the end of the day, the best option might not be the least expensive option. Nobody wants to pay more than they have to, but when it comes to house painting, go with a company that has a good reputation for quality work, reliability, and good customer service, even if you have to pay a little more. As the saying goes, “Cheap work isn’t good, and good work isn’t cheap.”
What Are the Benefits of Doing Both Projects at Once?
Even if having the interior and exterior painted at the same time doesn’t save you any money, what it will do is save you is some time and hassle. You only have to accommodate the paint crew once. If you work outside of the home, you only need to take time off once to be there while work is taking place.
In addition, at the end of the project, you will have a completely updated house! There’s something to be said about a complete transformation done all at once—it’s very satisfying!
What If I Only Have the Budget for One Project Right Now?
If you get a quote for both interior and exterior house painting, but can only afford one or the other, consider what your immediate goals are for your home. Are you thinking about selling in the near future? You may want to consider having the exterior done. It is well documented that good curb appeal can both greatly improve the sale price and decrease the time a home spends on the market. If you’re not moving anytime soon and just want to make the interior of your home more beautiful and inviting right away, go with interior painting.
Since more homeowners feel comfortable painting the interior of a home themselves (as opposed to the exterior), perhaps hiring a professional to do the outside and DIYing the inside is the way to go. With this option, you can tackle the interior of your home one room at a time. Painting one room is a lot less daunting for most people than painting the entire exterior of a home.
However, if you’re not confident in your painting abilities, do yourself a favor and just save up until you can hire a professional San Diego house painter. The last thing you want to do is attempt to paint a room (or multiple rooms) yourself and then be forced to hire a professional anyway because you’re unhappy with the results.
